Would you buy a house with a master suite in the basement? Especially those of you with kids? |
Is this the mid century modern house ? |
I would never. Don’t want my master to be in a basement bc…well basement. Also, no visibility on what kids are doing. Also resale. No way. |
Low chance but depends on the whole package. |
Do you mean like the downstairs of a split foyer? Or a true basement typically below ground? |
Show us the pictures |
Nope. |
Our master is on the “garden level”, ie, half underground. It’s a two unit condo, we have the bottom two floors. You walk up the front steps to the front door and then you’re on the main level. Inside, you go down a flight of stairs to our room and one of the kids bedrooms (the other is on the main floor, directly above us.)
We saw a few similar floor plans when we were searching. In some, it really felt like a basement. And those were a no from us. But ours is wonderful. There’s tons of light and it doesn’t feel basement-y at all. We’re fine with it - we love our house! |
No. Not in a split foyer, not in a “garden.” In my early 20s I vowed to only live above ground. No walls with earth behind them in the bedroom. I also don’t like clerestory windows, even though otherwise I like Mid-century design. They give me a bad feeling even if I know the wall isn’t buried. |
Nope. That’s just weird. I saw a house like that before where the basement room was more of the master than the actual master bedroom. Tried to make it work but just couldn’t. I don’t mind a basement room, but not the master.
Sorry, owners room. Since master bedroom is not PC |
No, that's weird. Not practical for a family with kids and bad for resale. |
No, I wouldn’t. |
Do you mean a subterranean basement, or really just the lower level. There's a difference.
The latter, yes. Subterranean, no. |
