How to find elder care attorney

Anonymous
In reading posts on this forum, it's becoming clear to me that I'll need an elder care attorney to help guide me through medicaid and related issues for my ailing father. Do I need to find someone in the state where my father lives or can I find someone locally in the DMV? He already has a will, POA, medical directive, etc. I will need help with how to correctly spend down his assets, etc.

I think his current local attorney is a basic trusts/estates lawyer. I'd welcome any recommendations for attorneys in the area if that would work. Thanks!

If you’re going to deal with Medicaid, the rules are state-specific so you need someone where you parent lives (unless you plan to move them near you).
