playdate

What do you all make of this? DD was supposed to have a playdate at the park today and an hour beforehand, she receives a call from her friend.

They talk for 20 minutes or so and I think the mom was listening on??

All of a sudden 30 min before the playdate the mom cancels with some excuse but then invites DD to her home where she has a trampoline I guess for the future.

What do you all think? This is a new friend and this was their first playdate. Categorize the mom as flakey or just that she would rather do in home playdates for some reason?

They couldn't get to the park for some reason. I wouldn't think too deeply about it.

What was the mom's excuse?

Probably was waiting on a repairman or needed to not mess with the younger sibling's nap or something like that. Would not think it was a big deal.

That her children had to do some type of online school at home until 6pm.

The thing is this playdate had been scheduled for a week!

Wouldn't you know a scheduled thing like that in advance?

Maybe the other spouse was supposed to supervise that and couldn't make it. We had something similar a few weeks ago; we had different playdates lined up for both kids but I had to go out of town unexpectedly for my parent's illness, so we had to offer the choice of canceling the playdates or having one at our house instead since DH couldn't be in two places at once.

Is it drama? I feel like it's drama on the part of the mom who cancels and don't show up last minute.

If you make plans, then follow through. Just like it you make a doctor's appt, you better go or you'll be dropped or canceled.

Obvioulsy, a doc and a playdate is not teh same thing but you are still wasting people's time, expectations and my child's "looking forward" to it.

If this is a new friend, I’d give them another chance.

Mom probably just didn’t want to go out. I prefer at home play dates. I get stuff I need to done while kids play.

Because even people doing their best have unexpected things come up.

Is this the OP posting this?

OP, I’d be irked but things happen and it’s better to give the benefit of the doubt. See how it goes in future.
