Infertility Support and Discussion
| Can someone recommend a good re or gyn to diagnose and treat endometriosis in MD or DC . I don't want to have any more fertility treatments until I Know why is not working and my doctor at SG refuses to give me a referral for a laparoscopy to diagnose endo , he says that ivf will surpass this , the problem is that I already failed two and don't want to go on . My periods are extremely heavy and painful after this treatments . Please help ! |
| Rifka at Columbia Fertility worked wonders for me. |
thanks for your repply. Did he perform laparoscopy? , plese tell me how he approached the situation . |
Laparoscopy first. Then I had recurrent severe symptoms, and he did a laparotomy. After that I moved on to IVF, and had success. This all took place over the course of ten months. I honestly believe that the surgeries were the key in my case. My endo was running rampant, and fertility drugs only exacerbated it. Having a thorough clean out made me able to tolerate the high dose ivf protocols. The decision to do a laparoscopy was made at my first appointment with him, BTW. He does not shy away from figuring out what the problem really is. |
Thats great to know. My re at SG doesn't want me to do any laparoscopy , I have a lot of pain during my periods, bladder pressure that makes me go pee every 30 mind during my periods and now infertility! , what else can I possibly have for him to recognize that I most likely have endo and need diagnosis and treatment before taking more fertility drugs. I think is time for me to move on . |
| You need to move away from SG cause if IVF can solve the problem they would rather you look elsewhere. |

To the OP: I hope you are still on this board and you see this post. I have stage 4 Endo that was dx'd via LAP. I also cycled at SG. My RE at SG couldn't recommend a good GYN to do the LAP here in DC so I did TONS of research and found a GYN that specializes in Endo down in Durham NC at Duke Univ. He was a lifesaver. His name is Dr.Yeung. Amazing guy. I had my LAP in May of 2009 and he only uses the excise method which most GYN's are not trained to do in our area. He trained with the Center for Endo Care in Atlanta which is the best place in the country to be treated. Anyway, I attempted 3 cycles after my LAP with IUI's before I ended up moving to IVF and I conceived via IVF. I will say, research shows that even once you're "cleaned out" most people with Endo will have residual Immune Issues that will ultimately require them to conceive via IVF. I found that out the hard way when I wasted my money on IUI's. I wish I had moved on to IVF and saved myself the heartache. Even if you do get cleaned out your Endo can return once you start stimming again. Mine did, and I was told that was a possibility. It was the risk I was willing to take to have a baby. Once I deliver my baby in August I will probably have another LAP with Dr. Yeung at Duke in the winter. I'd like to have another baby and I know that I need to be patched up again if the fertility drugs ruined my body. I hope this helps you.
