I really want to stay up on the ACPS and city budget. When does ACPS determine the student enrollment and report it? I thought Virginia was September, but I thought I heard someone state at a PTA meeting that it is in December. When is the city and ACPS budget passed? I didn't pay attention last budget season and I want to stay on top of it. How can we find out how many students have administrative transfers to our school or are turned away and what schools they are enrolled at? |
I believe the enrollment numbers are due to the state at the end of this month and reported to the state. Then they are made public in December. However, in previous years ACPS numbers were not included in VADOE's numbers. Entire district was missing for years. Not sure if they didn't report or it was an error on the VADOE's part for years and years. |
From the 2019-20 school year to the 2020-21 school year, ACPS lost 594 kids. Most of that was at the elementary level, for example George Mason lost 107 students (about a quarter of the school) in that time period.
Those are the most recent numbers available. |
Wow! 107 students? That is a lot. Where can I find this information? Did most of those students transfer to private schools or move out of the district? |
It's all available on the VADOE site.
I don't think where the students departed for is public information. |
GM was an overflow school even before the pandemic. I'm sure the 107 number is larger but is reduced by the number of overflow students. Which is unfortunate for those kids. |
