Cream tea in the DC-ish area?

Anonymous
I’m craving a cream tea — scones, jam, clotted cream, pot of tea, done. Is there any place in the area that does such a thing? There used to be a tea shop in downtown Frederick, but it looks like it closed.

I don’t need the full hotel-style afternoon tea, with sandwiches, tarts, champagne, and the whole dog and pony show. And I know I could just make my own at home. But sometimes it’s nice to go out somewhere and not have to do the dishes.

This weather makes me wish for a neighborhood tea shop. Following!

I just checked, and it looks as though the tea service at the National Cathedral has permanently closed.
Maybe check the Willard Hotel and the Strathmore Afternoon Tea to see if they offer what you’re looking for.
The small tea shops that I’ve been to in the past have all closed. I’ll be checking back with interest to read the posts for new options.

Strathmore is sold out through November, and hasn't opened December slots yet. Since that's not available, my backup would be the Mandarin Oriental tea. Not a tea shop, but a little more casual with a buffet.

Wow! This looks wonderful! And now I’m wondering about what Un Je Ne Sais Quoi , near Dupont Circle might be able to offer. It probably won’t be exactly what the OP op is looking for, but I bet it would be delicious.
