Allow teen to drive around elementary age sibling?

Anonymous
Is it the norm for teenagers to drive their younger siblings around? My little one wants to tag along with my new driver, but it seems dangerous. Am I being too uptight about this? It's sort of like babysitting while having to focus on the road, so that seems like a lot to put on a teenager.

Yes I allow it.

Not right away but once there was some solo driving under his belt, I allowed it.

The moment I turned 16 my parents had me
Picking up my younger siblings from school. It made their lives much easier.

this is not what you want to hear, but I have such great memories of being a 10-year-old boy and sitting on my 16-year-old brother's lap steering our family station wagon around the neighborhood. He was such an awesome big brother. We're still close.

Anyway, we were safe about it, and he drove me tons of places.

Not very safe and you were lucky you weren't maimed or killed. I wouldn't let my teenager drive his younger sib unless he had six months or more with no accidents/tickets

Forgot to add your story has nothing to do with the question.

OK, you humorless old scold.

My 16 year old drives his siblings around.

Enjoy your miserable life.

Only you know your kids and if they are responsible enough to drive safely and the younger is responsive enough to listen to their sibling.

My ADHD kid driving his know-it-all, impulsive little brother around, probably not going to happen at least for a few years.

Ha! you are too funny. If I don't live the life you would than I am a "humorless old soul" and have a miserable life. I am not going to convince you otherwise but, I do want to give you a hint. Just because I don't live life like YOU do does not mean I am miserable, old or humorless.

Thanks for the great laugh!

Ps I hope your 16 old doesn't have an accident and hope you live in Wyoming or other rural state.

I called you a scold, not an "old soul."

And I'm sure you've had a "great laugh." You probably haven't laughed in over 10 years.

Why? Because you think only teens in Wyoming should drive family members around?
