Just moved to an area in Upper Marlboro. Called the school and asked about the class size and was told three classes, 30-33 per class for 1st grade! Ridiculous!

That is really high, especially in elementary.
We have had kids in elementary for 9 years and the largest class size was 25. There were 21 kids in my son’s first grade class last year. It really just depends on the school. If it is above capacity and the Principal doesn’t have a spare classroom they can’t just add a class in a given grade. |

That is big. My daughters first grade class is 24 I think.
You could check out the rezoning maps that PGCPS put out recently. They have capacity numbers for different schools and whether they are over or under enrolled and information on if the assigned school will change with zoning changes. |
| That's crazy. No way I would do that. |

Are you new to PG county? If so, you can submit a transfer request to another school if you are able to provide transportation.

That was back in August. |
| I am a PGCPS teacher and that is pretty average. |
| My first grader has 24 people in his class. The official limit at his school for k-5 is 25. |
