| How does this work? We were told it’s from 9:45-11:00am. Do we stay in the class the entire time? I have two kids, one in first grade and one in PEP. Haven’t been to one. Do you just spend as much time as you want? Their classrooms are so small. Where do parents go? Stand at the back? |
| Sorry to hijack your thread. On a related topic, do high schools also have an open house on 10/10? |
|
Our MS has an open house
|
| this is the first time i've seen an open house. i'd imagine each school will have more information closer to the date. it's just for an hour, and it seems like it's just for parents to observe inside the classroom. |
|
When we did this in elementary school you just sat in the class and sometimes there was an activity that was more fun like an art project related to the lesson. I'd say about half the parents came.
Our MS postponed this because of a conflict with field trips. No idea what it looks like for older kids. |
| I always went when the kids were in ES. Stood in back usually. Also went once in 6th grade. Kids didn’t want us to go after that so we don’t. |
Some do, some don't. |
Our ES would set up chairs. It’s come and go as you like within the time window. |
No, they all do. It is a system wide open house. However, please don’t be the parent following your high school student around all day, embarrassing them in front of their peers. They really don’t want you there. And you’ll just stand out because only a few parents come. -HS teacher |
| I guess the ones that haven’t made an announcement don’t want the parents there? |
Your child will be mortified if you show up to the open house in high school. |
Our high school has said nothing about it, there's nothing listed on the calendar, it wasn't included in the principal's weekly newsletter update, nothing. |
| Was always on the Federal Holiday in October but this year schools were given flexibility to do it in the Fall. THis will be the first one since 2019! Our school is doing it on Veteran's Day instead. Seems better to wait for that as it's not on a Monday but a Friday which decreases Covid concerns after a weekend. Also provides more opportunity to get the message out since MCPS has not sent out any global message to the community. Happy with the plan our principal determined and yes it's a window to come and go as you like in the morning for a couple hours. |
Ours never has. I’ve had kids in the school for the past 12 years and it’s extremely unlikely that I missed it that many years in a row. |
Maybe that’s the whole point? “If you don’t do this chore, I’m coming to your high school open house on 10/10 and following you around!” |
