My 11 year old has been on 27 mg of Concerta for a year or two; it definitely helps him with his ADHD (when he's not on it, there's a lot of uncontrolled impulsivity and an inability to focus).
He also seems to have some anxiety. It's relatively mild, I think, but certainly "pervasive" (as the doctor said) and I fear it's impacting his life in a big enough way we need to address it. Major symptoms are a ton of negative self-talk, self-doubt, overall negative attitude, unkind towards sibling and best friend, and some social anxiety around new people. Doctor is suggesting trying one of the anti-depressants referenced in the title and coupling that with weekly therapy (he says the medication often makes the therapy go better). I'd love to hear experiences from others that have had their kids on both medications - what the behavior was like pre-medication and what it is like now, and what the major side effects seem to be. Thanks so much. |
| 18 yo on concerta and zoloft with great results. Titrated up. to. Concerta 36 mg and Zoloft 100 mg. Child. states that they. feel much. better and is complient without reminders due to positive effects |
thanks. Was your 18 year old on Concerta first and then added the Zoloft? How long before you noticed a difference on the Zoloft? |
| Our 12yo boy has been on 27mg Concerta and Lexapro for almost a year now. (Lex started at 5, went up to 7.5mg this summer.) It definitely helps, but hasn't eliminated his anxiety, but it sounds like my DS's anxiety is/was much more intense than yours. We saw no negative side effects. |
We started the Concerta 3 years ago and only added the Lexapro in Dec. |
