| Any leads on how one obtains insurance for a school trip? |
| More details? Who're you trying to insure - everyone on the whole trip? |
I'd always thought the travel insurance offered by airlines was a scam |
| Individual child. This is for the eastern ms nyc trip—there isn’t any group insurance available. |
What're you hoping to cover? Cancellation or medevac or something else? |
Cancellation. Eg if my child tests positive for Covid right before the trip… |
I doubt many travel insurance companies would cover that unless the child was very ill. |
Np here. You thought wrong. We used it for a health reason and the insurance company paid the claim in less than a month. |
Curious what company this was? |
| You need to get Cancel for any Reason insurance. We got 75% back after cancelling, which was about the best we could hope for. But it took forever. |
Allianz Global on AA. A cardiac condition diagnosed a week before the flight prevented my father from traveling to see us. My dad is a big fan of trip insurance and bought it when he purchased his airfare. My dad had all the paperwork from the doc, etc., filed a claim, got a check for the flight very quickly. We were quite shocked on how quickly they paid. (He was a solo traveler, so I can't say if it would have paid for another person.) But I've never heard of getting "trip insurance" for a school bus trip. Our HS has done overseas trips and the travel company / school has had optional insurance as part of that. OP should ask the school staff/sponsor if there is some available. |
| The music program at my kid’s HS is planning a bus trip to Disney World this spring that is probably about the same length/cost as the Eastern NYC trip (my kid was at Eastern but they didn’t do NYC the last few years because of COVID, so I’m not sure). The travel organization running the trip is offering insurance through TripMate. Cancel for any reason insurance was ~$80. |
