| I saw an invite for a virtual info meeting from the county but got less than a days’ notice and the timing didn’t work. This weekend I got an email about open houses at some DCC schools this week. Are we supposed to already be actively looking now? I’ve heard nothing from our kids’ current school and these events have had such little notice. Are there more open houses down the line or do we need to rearrange schedules with little notice to go now? |

The information meeting from last week was recorded. This should cover your basic questions. This is when you should be exploring the choices, because your kid needs to submit the choice form by November 4th.
The open houses are coming up, and they can be helpful, but also a lot of the same information is on their websites. If you can't make any or all of them, it's not the end of the world. | At a minimum, you should visit your home base HS (if you haven’t already) to see the school and understand the programs. If you list it first, you are supposed to get it. Visit one or two other schools at least, to see if their programs are a fit. All the information will be online, but it’s useful to also visit the school and see where it is relative to your home and what the surrounding area is like. |
If you list your home school first, you are guaranteed to get it. |
| Thank you for posting that info PPs. What do they do at the open houses? |
The principal and some administrators will introduce themselves and the school. The academy coordinator will talk about each of the programs that school offers. There are usually tables with representatives from various clubs, sports, band, etc. The most useful thing is getting to walk around the school building itself. Some schools just let you roam around; others have scheduled sessions in different classrooms. |
| You will need to check out your transportation options. Some school buses are a long walk from your home, and then a long ride to/from the school. For your homeschool, you must live at least 2 miles from home to qualify for a bus. |
