| I am invited to Half Saree Ceremony for my neighbor’s daughter. What kind of gift should I bring? I am not Indian and have no idea what’s appropriate for this occasion. Should I get a gift card like a birthday party? |

I am Indian and grew up in urban India and this was really not a thing back in my day, but seems to have come back into popularity recently. |

Kind of a puberty celebration. GC or a rah-rah womanhood type book may work.

| My grandmother tried to hold this ceremony for me and my cousins back in India when each of us started our periods but we all vehemently opposed it since we found it embarrassing. How the times change! |

Right? I grew up in the US and in the 90s my grandparents tried to do this on a visit back to India and I outright refused. I guess they need an alternative to the thread ceremony for boys which has been in full force the whole time in the States. OP - give money, you can't go wrong. end it with a 1 - as in 51, 101, etc. |
