What does cover lightly mean in a stew recipe?

Anonymous
Following a recipe for beef stew. Five hours at 275. "Cover lightly." Does that mean cover halfway? (can't do less than that, because of the large, heavy lid). Or mostly cover it but leave a little ajar?

I would leave it ajar, or if you can’t put some tin foil on it

I'd assume cover lightly with a foil tent so it doesn't burn on top, like you do for a pie or a turkey sometimes
