Long shot, but any experienced South Asian cooks here with brand recommendations for allergy-friendly Indian savory snacks? Like sev, papdi, chakli, murukku etc.
They are often fried in peanut oil even if they don't contain peanuts or nut products, and I don't know which brands make theirs in facilities free of contamination. Thank you! |

Are you looking specifically for peanut allergy friendly?
You can be allergic to almost anything, so you need to specify the allergens. |

I don’t know anything about avoiding peanuts, but I’ve been burned by prepackaged Indian snacks that say they are gluten-free. I don’t know what the issue is — maybe the ingredients themselves are gluten free ( I always read the label)— but they’re produced in a contaminated space?
Anyway, if you’re talking about a severe allergy I would be very cautious regardless of labels or advice you receive. |
| There’s no way to be sure unless you make them yourself. |
| Make it at home. This is the only way you can ensure that they have no cross contamination. |
Thanks. Yes I can make stuff at home, but my home is not a nut free space so I thought that it’s better to buy products pre-packaged and labeled nut allergy safe, for a visitor with a severe allergy. |
| If you find something please update. Most snack lines use sesame, peanuts or cashews so I can’t see any of them being nut-free even if they use nut-free oils. I would do something different for somebody allergic |
