How dressy are Homecoming Dances at Blair?

Anonymous
Our 9th grader is interested in going to the homecoming dance. How dressy are the dances? Are we talking formal dresses, suits and ties, etc. Or can kids get away with a casual dress or button up shirt? Or is it even more casual and kids wear jeans, shorts, etc.? Just trying to understand what the scene is like. Thank you!

I think anything is fine. Those short party dresses at Macy's are very popular. Mine wore one of my old tea length formals. My other wore a flapper dress. One female friend wore black pants, jacket and necktie with a fedora. So, dress for fun!

My freshman DD has told me she’s wearing jeans or leggings and “some shirt.” The IG post I saw from the principal seemed to say there was no dress code.

Bummer, I was hoping the 70s style tux's were back in fashion with the blue ruffled shirts.

I’ve had two kids go through. One in 2007-11 and the other is an 11th grader now. It’s never been as fancy as prom. My daughter was really into fashion so she got her friends to dress up a bit, but otherwise they would have stuck with casual.

I volunteered at Blair homecoming a few years ago. There was a huge range. I would have them check with the group they are going with. I will also add that the gym was DREADULLY hot (and smelly). They can not open the doors due to security concerns. Keep it in mind when choosing clothes. There is a parent run "coat check" where kids can shed clothes, shoes, phones etc during the evening.

LMAO. Yes, the doors closing is going to lead to everyone getting covid. Run! For the hills!

Last year they incorporated the outdoor courtyards and main hall to spread people out.

Let the kid find out what the scene is like. This isn't full on helicoptering but you really could let them handle this.

So glad to hear that. I literally had to leave the gym after 5 minutes. You could feel the heat building as you went down the hall. My kid and friends left after and hour to get ice cream. I am sure they would never have attended again...though Covid cancelled any opportunity.
