| What is the reputation of VT’s School of Science and School of Agriculture and Life Sciences? How do Tech’s natural sciences programs compare to other VA schools? Or is it better to go out of state for a really strong program? Thoughts from families with first-hand experience in these VT colleges would be most appreciated. |

VT has three colleges within the university that are close to what you are asking about.
CALS is the Ag and Life Sciences. College of Science is where the bio, chem etc. folks are. CNRE is the Natural Resources people. I am most familiar with CALS and it is strong. But depending on the major, what grad school you pick might be more important. Personally, it is hard for me to pass up instate tuition. |
| DK is a recent CALS major, had awesome lab opportunities at VT, great internship last summer and now working at a top Ivy university lab. Amazing experience if your student is motivated. |
| Really good school for natural sciences. You would have excellent chance of getting into top ranked grad school or job from VT. |
| DC is in the Physics program and we've been really impressed with the support of the program, the intership opportunities, and the research they'be been able to participate in. |
| CALS is very strong. Cornell, CALS and NC state all have great programs |
My PhD advisor was in Physics and I see many talented undergrads there. You would not regret VT. |
| There's a natural cross-pollination between engineering and natural sciences so it's good in that regard. |
