Andor is finally in Disney+

Three episodes of Andor dropped today. I’m loving it!

The actress who plays Maarva played Petunia Dursley in the Harry Potter films.

Pockets of fomenting is one of the best lines I’ve ever heard in the Star Wars universe.

The great stage and screen actress Fiona Shaw.

She's a legend in the UK and has played everything on stage, including Shakespeare's Richard II. As in...he was Richard. She's an incredibly versatile, highly regarded actress and the entire reason my husband wanted to see Andor. I love actors who are so skilled they can play Shakespeare or anything else but they're not snobs about enjoying roles in huge popcorn franchises like Harry Potter and Star Wars.

We haven't been able to get into any other Star Wars series (admittedly, we like the films but aren't hardcore fans) but those first three episodes of Andor sucked us in. The set-piece firefight where the huge engines were swinging around on chains and crashing -- Wow, what a fantastically designed and executed scene. The look of the series so far seems different. I read that this is the first (?) Star Wars series where they used extensive sets and locations instead of CGI and that accounts for a different (and better) look. Anyone know if that's the case?

Ugh, above it should be "SHE was Richard"!

Yea this is the first sw series using actual locations and practical sets. It has a different look for sure.

She’s great in Killing Eve.

I was the one who asked about that. I think maybe that's influencing why I like the series more than when we've tried to watch other SW series. This one just feels more grounded and gritty so far.

I LOVE IT, but I also adore Rogue One.

I really wanted to like it. Star Wars for people who also like The Sopranos.

But I didn’t consider it any better or worse than the first episodes of Boba Fett or Obi-Wan (both of which I could tell are not for me).

The episodes end so abruptly.

My teen, huge SW fan, said thumbs down.

It's a serial so they know viewers are going to move to the next episode and eventually bingewatch the whole thing when it's all released. No incentive to try to tie up an arc by an episode's end.

Ditto. Also like Rogue One and the way I felt like it had bigger stakes, and characters were allowed to.... well, I won't spoil the ending in case someone who's been on a remote island for years hasn't seen it. But, stakes.

I read a review of Andor (positive one) that noted, "Not a Jedi or light saber in sight." I think it's better for those who either aren't deeply into SW or who are, but are open to a world that's not the same as the familiar one that some fans want to see repeated over and over.

Fascinating episode. Just how did the rebellion finance itself? Steal the quarterly pay of imperials in the sector!
