UT Austin..Hook ‘em ![]() |
Austin vs Charlottesville, basically. |
Both are great. I have direct knowledge of both. If you are a state resident, go with that one. |
Get into both and then decide… |
Both are fine if you are male + Republican. Think twice if you are female. |
They are very different. UT is HUGE and Austin (for worse, from my perspective) has become a big city. If a kid goes to UT, they need to be a self-starter and need zero hand-holding.
From an academic perspective, I'd choose UT over UVA for business, science or engineering. They amount of money they've spent on labs recently is stunning. They also have a great communications department. For liberal arts, I'd pick UVA. Socially, UT is so big that you can find your people there. There's a bunch of people in Greek life at both schools, but it's a relatively small proportion of the population at UT, so it's probably less important there vs. UVA. In case you're not aware, only 10% of the student body can be from OOS at UT, so the OOS admission rate is in single digits vs. 15% OOS at UVA. |
+1, seriously |
Depends on program of study and where you live. DD got into UCLA and UVA. I told her she had to convince me UCLA was $160,000 better than UVA. She couldn’t. Same would be true to UT. If there was some specific program of study that was uniquely offered at the other school I would have considered it. |
UVA is every bit as good as UTA for business. |
UT on program, setting and opportunity.
UVA if you are in state. |
OP - kid is a recruited athlete, so this advice is not relevant - but thx |
How did calculate UCLA is 160K more than UVA ?? |
UVA McIntire is much better in fact. The catch is you have to apply for the business program in 2nd year. The acceptance rate to the program is around 55-60% Big risk but it's much better than UTA. I would not choose either for Business especially when UTA is OOS People should know what they are talking about. |
