What models are good (or decent) deals now?

Need a new car soon - basic model is fine. Past cars have included Honda civic and CR-V but doesn't need to be a honda. Anyone who has been car shopping lately and has advice on what's out there? And if the basic car prices are super high, may want to upgrade to a mid-range car like a Volvo XC40 or something if there's not much price difference.

CRV has been fully redesigned. There may be a deal on the previous model, if you can find one.

I bought Outback base for MSRP few weeks ago. Emailed some dealers, agreed on price, paid deposit online. Picked up car 2 weeks later.
