Is this school a good one for undergrad business degree?
We live in DC. How competitive is it to get in?

Be sure to look at the UMD website for information.

It is highly ranked (might be different this year - didn't look)

It is a limited enrollment program (LEP) which means it is competitive to get in to.

Huh? It’s a state flagship land grant university. Of course it’s a “target.”

And unless your kid has top stats, it's actually a reach.

I think it may be an easier admit from DC proper than from MoCo, actually. In part because top students from Maryland would be fools not to apply, so everyone better than you in your high school is applying, but top students from DC have many competitive options at the same OOS price.

Here is info for where students are from:
https://reports.umd.edu/tableaupublic/1824
DC - 537 undergraduates
MoCo - 10,512 undergrads
I know that doesn't show stats, but it gives a sense of comparison.

Here's 2021 fall stats: https://irpa.umd.edu/CampusCounts/Admissions/apps_ug.pdf
I think 2022 fall will come out in October.

A couple snapshots of enrollment by school:

where's the UVA booster?

If you don't apply EA to UMD, you pretty much have no chance to get accepted.

my neighbors son was surprised he didn't get in. 1490 sat, strong EC, its academic. he will be going to MC for a couple years and then transfer in.

If your child wants business - you want you kid to be a direct admit to the business school. Very difficult to transfer in.
