| This has to be one of the most fouled up intersections in the entire city. Traffic turning right off Whitehaven Fwy onto M St NW routinely blocks traffic going eastbound on Canal Rd from proceeding on to the Key Bridge and M St. Would it be so hard for DDOT to extend the bollards down the entirety of M St between 35th St and the intersection with Whitehurst and Canal Rd so that traffic turning right off Whitehurst has to go on to the Key Bridge? There are ample other routes to get to M St from points east without going on Whitehurst. |

So you wan the road configured how you use it, but not how others use it.
Maybe try a different mode of transportation if you don't like how it is laid out now. |
| It’s a mess. Pedestrians and bikers are hit there not infrequently. |
| The white plastic dividers used to span the entire block. They were recently extended and then shortened again. Maybe it was a trial? I think this exiting from Whitehurst still cut across them (and ran them over) to get to eastbound M street rather than Key Bridge. |
| A million years ago there used to be a direct ramp from the westbound whitehurst freeway to the Virginia bound bridge. But then they got rid of that and made that little park. Probably a better outcome all around but it does create that snarl there. Wonder if they should just ban right turns |

Whitehurst travelers block the box with impunity and make travel from Foxhall/Canal into Georgrtown and Virginia miserable.

No they are not. You realize that DC has a GIS map right? |
I rarely take the route but when I do I am astounded at the behavior of drivers who inconsiderately block traffic from entering the Key Bridge by trying to cross from the Whitehurst Fwy exit to the far left lane to get to M St when that lane is full. If those drivers can't be considerate enough to wait until the lane is clear before moving in, then preventing them from doing so by extending the bollards is the best option. |
| About 2/3 of the cars have VA plates. Can VA drivers just take the Roosevelt bridge? It would solve this entire problem. Instead they back up and clog the Whitehurst, M St and Canal. |
You realize that map can only display incidents that were reported to the police and the police actually filed a report, right? I've personally been hit twice in that exact area, but there were no major injuries and I was on my way to work so why would I waste the time to call the police and wait for them to show up just so they can refuse to file a report? I guarantee that GIS undercounts incidents by a factor of 10 or more. Probably closer to 100. |
Yup and the place seems like a shitshow in the data: https://opendata.dc.gov/datasets/crashes-in-dc/explore?location=38.904740%2C-77.070165%2C19.34 |
You’re such a dedicated employee that you after being hit twice car by a car you just walk it off so you’re not late for work? Absolutely incredible. Like literally not credible. |
Wrong data. The number of pedestrians or bicycles involved in an accident (minor, major or fatal) at that intersection this year is exactly zero. https://www.arcgis.com/apps/dashboards/a2f1cca5159e4c6eae197895d2e08336 |
