College friends dropping in tonight and thought (good) Chinese takeout & wine would be a fun throwback. But I left my own Chinese food eating days back in the college era, so I don’t know what’s good around here. |
Assuming you want traditional (American) Chinese take-out, try New Star Asian Bistro in the Chesterbrook Shopping Center on Old Dominion. We’re been getting take-out there for years. |
If you’re willing to go to Arlington, Peter Changs in the Harrison shopping center is good. |
Peter Changs is very good, but not everything travels well as carry out (they limit their carry-out menu as a result), and it’s not really a throw back to the kind of chinese OP probably ate in college. It’s more upscale, and it lots of ways more authentic, but it’s not going to be white boxes of lo men, sesame chicken and egg rolls. |
China Wok on Rt 7 is your standard Chinese take out place, been there for years |
There used to be a neighborhood favorite in the Tyco Rd industrial park (take out only). But I can't remember beyond that -- maybe someone else can chime in. |
More upscale and authentic choices are better. |
Possibly this: https://hunancafetyson.5menucities.com/catalog.aspx?cid=37 |
Wok n Roll in Mclean is favorite. Or Peking Gourmet in Culmore is the top of the food chain. |
I think they mean China Express, it’s a small takeout space, probably 90% delivery. https://chinaexpresstysons.com/ |
Wok n Roll is a good take out/ delivery place. Peking Gournet is past 7 corners, probably not deliver to McLean. |
china express the one on tyco road
the best 8+ years |
We did Fahrenheit Asian in McLean and it was authentic and outstanding (and pricier than China Express, as you might imagine) |
Fahrenheit is indeed the best nearby for food on the more authentic side. Used to be Asian Origin but sadly COVID killed them. |
Fahrenheit Asian is really good. I do wish it has more pescatarian options. A recent takeout menu didn’t have a single item with shrimp. The garlic eggplant is delicious but I could use a non meat protein. |
