HS football cluster night event

We get a school email like that.

QOHS Football Cluster Night
Our QO cluster night is Friday, September 16th. Game time is 6:30 pm. All children must be supervised. Tickets are $5 for everyone ,11-62 years of age. Tickets may only be purchased online.

How long is the game? My children are 7 and 4, do they need a ticket because it mentions 11-62 years of age? Do they sell food or can we bring food/drink? We are foreigners, and we have never watched a HS football game. What do we expect? Is that fun to watch for kid or kid friendly event ?

I’d interpret that to mean kids under 11 are free? In the HS football games (not MCPS) I’ve been to, it’s rare to see families with elementary school children, but I have no idea what it’s like in this area. The games seemed to be more an excuse for HS students to check out other HS students.

In moco it’s common for younger kids to go to football games.

Our school cluster just sent an email saying that middle school and elementary school kids must be accompanied by an adult or they would be escorted out. It’s pretty common for middle school students to attend but not as a drop off.

If you do go, it looks like tickets are online only

I would absolutely skip a QO game with children that young. Qo has one of the largest student sections in the state. As such. There is a TON of cursing. If they are playing any of the seedy schools I would be concerned with knives/guns (security at football games has been a huge concern especially at big rivalries like qo vs nw, but there was also a stabbing outside the Clarksville game recently.

If you do go, you are not allowed to bring outside food or drinks. Concessions at games are a big source or revenue for booster clubs. There will be food.. lines are long especially between halves.

Tickets are "bought " online even when free. You will need to show your ticket to get in or you can not enter.

Games are 1.5 to 2 hours.

I honestly doubt a 4 or 7 year old would give a hoot about watching a live football event.

What's with the talcum powder throwing at football games? I am surprised MCPS allows that. It's toxic to breath in a fine powder like that.

Our high school had their community night (cluster night) game last week, and the email specifically said "Children 10 & Under FREE with a paying adult!!"

The good thing about an outdoor game is that you can always leave early. My son said the opposing side (who was losing) started filing out from the stands early in the game! You definitely don't have to stay for the whole thing.

Okay crazy lady.

Kids/families do not sit in the student section… the red army. They don’t sit in the student section even at private schools.

It’s an amazing night out with the Community.

Jeez you sound insane.

Clarksville isn’t even Montgomery county.

Unless an adult or older kid knows enough about football to explain what’s going on, it’s going to be really boring for a young kid.

Also, I’m not sure which “seedy” schools the PP had in mind, but plenty of MCPS high schools at all ends of the socioeconomic spectrum have had issues with violence at various times. You can’t assume wealthy schools will be immune.

That said, if they’re specifically inviting families and younger children, the atmosphere might be different that week. But I still wouldn’t think a small child who understood nothing about football and knew nobody other than siblings would have fun.

Clearly meant clarksburg where there was a stabbing last year after a qo game
https://mocoshow.com/blog/message-sent-to-clarksburg-and-quince-orchard-communities-regarding-stabbing-incident-that-occurred-in-parking-lot-last-night/

Also the stands at qo are tiny. The red army and the parent sections are all contained within a very small stadium area and over flow has to stand around the track. I wouldn't bring elementary school age kids to this.

If they like football bring them to a junior varsity game on a Saturday.

I see there was a brawl at the Gaithersburg/NW game last night that spilled into the spectators and a knife confiscated. I guess you're the crazy lady. 🤪
