License plate question (VA)

I have a standard-issue license plate, nothing special, but the number is easy to remember and I've memorized it. It's peeling so I would like a new one, but I want to keep my same plate number. Is there a way to do this in Virginia?

I don't particularly want a specialty plate, but the bigger issue with those is they are 6 places instead of 7 - I can't re-create my existing number that way either.

There are companies which sell custom printed vinyl decals for license plates.

Buy a roll of clear contact paper and cover it.

Tell the DMV your plate is damaged and they’ll issue a replacement with the same number.
