Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers

Our DD has some developmental delays and a doctor has recommended we purchase a baby doll for her so that she can learn to imitate feeding, drinking with the baby doll and begin to explore imaginative play. I never really wanted my baby to play with baby dolls (I always thought it was weird, before I had kids and I'm also worried about grandma trying to push "girlie-girl" dollies onto my daughter) but now I realize that it's probably an important phase for her to explore and feel bad for limiting the options. Anyway, can someone recommend a good baby doll to get? I don't want one with batteries, fwiw.
Thanks in advance! |

How old is your DD?
I like/love Corolle dolls, as does my daughter. A bit more expensive than others but very cute and they have a really nice smell that kids seem to really like. Their Calin and Tidoo dolls are very cute, there are some less pink options and cute accessories for that all important pretend play. Tidoo can go in the bath but Calin is more cuddly. The dolls have a variety of looks/ethnitices which is nice to get one that looks most like your DD. http://www.corolle.com/us/catalogue/premier.php5#calin This one is for the under 18 months (my guess) http://www.corolle.com/us/catalogue/babicorolle.php5#babipouce For slightly older again - a toddler doll rather than a baby are these. My DD has adored these..... Clothes are very easy to take on and off. They look like little 1 and 2 year olds! These can also be for role play - more like a little friend but you might want to get more than one (drop hint to grandma about doll needing friends!). My DD "reads" to them and "sings" to them and pretends to be the teacher. She also puts them to bed (and is pretty strict - much more than we are!) http://www.shopatron.com/products/category/POUPETTE+DOLLS/205.0.1.1.5727.29422.0.0.0 Other props that are good for role play are a play kitchen, a little tea set - these will be used to feed the dolls (and other stuffed animals). Don't worry about having girly toys. The problem really is that some girls only get toys for girls and everything is pink. Mix it up a bit. |

I had a madame alexander doll which I loved as a girl and then got one for my dd, and she loves it too. Its a perfect size, a soft body, and so cute. She feeds it, wraps it in blankets, reads to it etc, so I think it would work for your needs.
