Rolling admissions - is February too late to apply?

Anonymous
My DD has one D on her transcript and is retaking the class now. Is it worth it to wait until after the semester ends to show the new grade on her transcript for a college with rolling admissions or will February 2023 be too late?

The answer to that q depends on too many factors that you don't include

If the college is a reach for your kid, I would hold off to show the better grade. If it's the difference from a D to an A, that is a big deal.

February is too late. Apply now. Rolling admission schools aren’t highly selective- the whole point is to get that acceptance early. One D really isn’t that huge, especially if it was from spring 2020, or 2020-21 virtual year. You can ask the counselor to say something about it (what happened) and that your DD is retaking it now.

I think it depends on what school she is applying to. Maybe you could wait until after first advisory grades are in and address it in the essay. Also, she could call the admissions rep and talk it through with them. The ones we’ve talked to are very helpful.

It is NOT too late. Many schools have RA dates in Feb and March and have rolling after that.

Not OP but my kid is in a similar situation. She is looking at Pitt and Penn State.

These schools were still taking students in July of this year for September start. They would be more than happy to overlook a few bad grades for a paying customer.

This board was freaking out last year in Dec/Jan/Feb because Pitt had soooo many applications in October they couldn’t process them quickly and basically, Pitt filled up and declined many students that used to be accepted.

In which course did your daughter receive a letter grade of "D" ?

To which rolling admissions schools does she intend to apply ?

February is quite late. I know of a situation where a very highly qualified resident was not admitted to her Big Ten state flagship because all spots were taken before January.

I think it’s too late. I would apply and add it in your application that you are retaking the class. And, then have the update sent.

+1. I agree with this.
