I was at the Aldi in Falls church/Arlington and noticed that the prices are now on par with Giant and TJs. Bonus - Giant and TJs have better tasting food.
Aldi has been slowly raising prices since they opened but now they have an excuse to raise them all the way to be on par with other local grocery stores. They still maintain their loss leader products. Their frozen foods - we used to try the seasonal selections but they were always meh and now that the prices is similar to TJs but less servings, it doesn't make sense to even try it out. They raised prices because they could not because they needed to. The prices of the products are different in different stores in NOVA. So if you haven't tried an Aldi yet, don't bother. And if you already shop there, wise up and just go down the street to whatever other decent grocery store is in your area. |

I've recently began going to Aldi. I'm really liking what I see there.
Their breads are significantly less expensive, as are a lot of products. I've found their produce very fresh. For example, their spring onions are half the price of major large grocery stores, and stay fresh a lot longer. |
| FYI Whole Foods is now cheaper than Giant for a lot of items. |
We have purchased their bagged salads and they last much, much, much longer than the regular grocery store ones. Like they were still fresh 2 weeks after purchasing. It made us wonder what exactly they do to get them to stay good that long! We ended up being too suspicious and tossing them and vowed to avoid them in the future. |
thanks, good to know - haven't been to Whole Foods in ages as it is not as convienent. |
| Giant and HT have excellent deals if you go mid-week. |

I have noticed this too. I do think their prices are still mostly cheaper than Giant/TJ, but they have increased.
Thing like the knockoff Samoas used to be $1.39 and now they are $1.99 which is still half the price of the Keebler version at Harris teeter. |
| Hummus is still way cheaper at Aldi. |
| Only for items that are on sale at Giant. Otherwise, Aldi's prices are still overall cheaper. Not by much, though. |
| The traditional stores like Giant, HT etc are overall the most expensive. |
This is so weird, I have gone to Aldi maybe 5 times and at each visit every single box of berries had mold in it. Every single one. And their other produce looked gross as well. |
| Just eat rice and beans. |
| Walmart is the best. |
| I've noticed that Lidl is getting more expensive too. Potatoes were more expensive at Lidl yesterday than my local, very expensive, Safeway. |
I think there must be great Aldi's and trash Aldi's. Unfortunately the one I've tried a couple of times in Silver Spring is the latter, so I'm always confused when people sing the praises of Aldi produce on here. But I'd love to shop at a great one if it were convenient - I love a bargain! |
