Is it too late to switch to Virtual Academy?

It has nothing to do with Covid. The counselor hasn’t returned my email as of yet. Anyone know?

And once in Virtual Academy, can kids still attend activities at their home school?

No, you can apply any time but depends on space available. Reach out to VA and ask them. Call or go in person if they don't respond to email.

Yes, they are supposed to be allowed to participate in home school activities but some allow it and some don't.

Just need to say I think it sucks that someone has to specify that it's not covid-related likely to preempt being bashed because of asking a question.

If it’s a medical issue they should submit a note from their doctor. There is a lot of negativity on this board about the school.

I do know you can pull a kid out at any time to do homeschooling. We did it for lower elementary school kids during the 2021-2022 school year.

We were happy with the flexibility the VA offered last year, OP.

However, since they hired in 2021, right in the middle of the teacher shortage, unfortunately, a number of their teachers were not up to par, and they were missing a few high school courses. Perhaps the teachers had also been told to go easy on the students? I don't know. One of the AP calc and AP history teachers of the VA did not teach well. Languages are hard to teach online, and my kids find that they're struggling in their languages this year back at their home school.

However the dean Steven Orders is great. He worked tireless to put the school together last year, and some of the other teachers truly went above and beyond, the orchestra teacher and the AP English teacher particularly. I have no doubt they're going to build up the VA to a stellar school.

We did not ask about activities at the home school.

Give them a call, it doesn't hurt to ask if they have space.
