| I think it’s remember hearing Deal kids automatically get enrolled at JR. My kid doesn’t attend but I am getting emails and now getting notifications from Aspen for missing assignments. Anyone quickly been able to rectify this? I don’t have much time during work day. Will I be able to call JR and handle this over the phone during a break? They’re closed now. |
| If you’re at a DCPS school, I’d start with a call to your own school. If you’re at a private or moved out of town, I’d start by emailing Mr. Rottman at Deal. I heard they have 700 freshmen at Jackson Reed this year. They will be happy to get rid of yours, I’m sure, but I expect the registrar is completely swamped right now. |
He’d not have any ability to change enrollment at a different school. |
No but the OP already has a relationship with him, and he would likely know exactly how to get it done and maybe have tips or even a back channel. If you have a better answer, please share. |
I just think that deal admin have enough on their plate as it is without adding private school kids to their to do lists. Take a copy of the kid’s schedule to j-r to show them or log into Aspen and remove your email. |
| It should also resolve itself within a month or so when they audit the enrollment. |
| I suggest reaching out to the J-R Registar, Ms. Maritano. Her email should be on the school website. She is very responsive. There is a form for you to complete. This is so the school district confirms that it hasn't lost a student and that your student is still enrolled in school. |

Yes, email the registrar. She was super responsive

| Thank you PPs |
It’s kind of OP if she actually gets her child removed now. Given all the students still trying to get their classes sorted out, it would be helpful not to have phantom students maxing out classes. |
| This happened to us as well. I emailed the Registrar at JR. |
I think most of us try. Last summer I emailed Deal mid summer and completed a DCPS disenrollment form. However, my kid was still enrolled at JR and given a schedule (a really good schedule actually). I emailed and called JR that day and they were very responsive but it took about a week to get him taken out of Aspen. |

This has been going on for years. I am not really sure why a better system hasn't been figured out. Yes you should email the registrar at JR.
Back in the day (2015ish) you had to GO to JR with your child to withdraw them from the school where they didn't enroll or attend. It was ridiculous. They have made it easier in the last few years but we still got the Aspen notifications for a while and my child wasn't even failing all her classes! |

There is a form that the new private school needs to complete. Once they sign it and send it back, it happens almost instantly.
Now - that will not remove you from the distribution list from JR. I just mark that as spam and call it a day. |
| I emailed the registrar and she responded with the form. I filled it out but she wants the new school to sign it. I then got a separate email from a new person at DCPS (sent before the registrar responded) asking to confirm if my student will be coming to JR. I’m hoping between the two avenues, it will happen. I really don’t think we should have to go through process of having to have new school fill out forms as I never enrolled at Jackson Reed. |
