Virtual Virginia for Summer School classes for high school?

We're thinking of having DD do a VV summer class or two next year to lighten her junior year and allow her to take tougher classes (and at least 1 fewer). Has anyone done this? Does your school need to approve? I assume we'll pay for it, which is fine

Yes. In APS your school signs you up for VV. You pay. We did it and it worked just fine and the grade showed in ParentVUE over the summer as if it was an APS class.
