Best manhattan neighborhood for visiting toddlers?

Anonymous
Hello! We go to NYC every fall, and now we have 2 year old twins in tow. What are the best neighborhoods in Manhattan for things to do within walking distance for toddlers and some family friendly restaurants? We stayed in midtown west last year and did central park zoo, Rockefeller, and childrens museum, so want to do something different this year. Does not have to be the big museums - I know we will spend at least part of the trip at the playground! We’ve been to the city many times but it’s a completely different trip with kids and we won’t be very ambitious in terms of “sightseeing” - just want to soak up the fall NYC vibe.

The meatpacking district is known for its clubs but it’s also convenient to little tulip park and the high line? Have seen the Gansevoort recc’d for families.

One place we’ve enjoyed with our kids is downtown by Battery Park. The playscape is great for toddlers. And you can take a ferry if you like or just look at the water.

I can’t imagine 2 year olds enjoying the noise of nyc. Maybe take them to a nice farm to pick apples or something if you want to experience fall.

Upper West side has the Natural History Museum and children's public playgrounds. We took our kids there aged 2&3 and I think the circus was also in town (NYE).

Lower Manhattan has so many great playgrounds.

In addition to Kowsky Plaza, you could try these:

For anyone with older kids, this park is a little hard to find, but right by all of these other parks, and has a great, slightly scary big kid slide:

+1 What a silly post.

As if there are no children who live in NYC.

Another vote for the Upper West Side, specifically west 70s/80s. Museum of Natural History is great, plus you can go into Central Park relatively easily. Also there are a variety of local playgrounds that are open on weekends when the schools are closed - we like the playground at 77th or 78th and Amsterdam (Tecumseh) and the one at 77th and Columbus. On a weekday you can go to the playgrounds that are actually in Central Park. Sugar Factory is a fun place to eat.

You do know that kids live in NYC, right?

Brooklyn near the transit museum. I have twins and family in NYC so we went often. It wasn't fun until kids were at least 5.
