| Are they considered an excused absence? It’s not listed on my kid’s HS attendance form as a reason. |
|
OP I am pretty sure there is a form to fill out and must be provided in advance. I think three trips.
Please check with your HS or look on MCPS website. |
| It’s 3 days excused. Email your HS attendance secretary to get their process. However, I wouldn’t use those days in fall. Save them for spring when your DC is deciding between schools or their preferred school has an admitted student event you want to travel for. |
|
Our secretary told us 3 days per semester, not per year. But who knows. It might vary school to school.
I don't know if it's seniors only or if juniors get this benefit, as well. |

The regulation says https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/policy/pdf/jea-ra%20nondiscrimination.pdf
A number of activities or work situations that the principal/designee should excuse when approval for the absence has been requested five school days in advance in writing from the parent/guardian/eligible student are included below: (1) Visits to college campuses and participation in college orientation programs (see local student handbook for limitations) https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/students/rights/0848.22_2022-23_StudentRightsAndResponsibilities_WEB.pdf says the same thing. Poolesville high school says they limit college visits to 3. Other schools may have different limits, but I think 3 days is the general expectation. |
| If you need more, just call in sick. Nobody cares in spring of senior year. |
| You'd have to miss a TON of school for anyone to even care at all. |
