Why is wallpaper SO expensive?

Anonymous
Even the peel and stick Spoonflower stuff would cost me almost $3000 for my living room (25 X 15, not huge). I found a pattern I love that would look great as a whole room pattern, not an accent wall, but I can't justify that. Was it always this expensive?

More or less.

I haven't bought it in a while, but my recollection is there's a huge price range.

We use Cole and Sons in all of our homes. So delightful and so very worth it!

The install is $$$$ too!

Barely anybody buys wallpaper anymore so it has become more costly.

I wallpapered an accent wall on my staircase. I used three roles, and each was $100. Having it hung was an additional $500, so yes, $800 for one small wall was expensive, but worth it! I love the way it turned out.

Equally challenging is fining someone who is qualified to do it. I was surprised how difficult it was.

You can always DIY.

How much does each roll cost, OP? That sounds very expensive, even if it includes install. We have grass cloth above the wainscoting in our study and it was less than $50/roll, each roll covered about 50 square feet. We hung it ourselves and it was very easy.

We also have a faux grass cloth on an accent wall in the eating area of our kitchen. There is artwork and a china cabinet in front of it, so it didn’t require an expensive fabric. Looks amazing for $29/roll.

We just covered our kitchen table with a painter’s tarp, unrolled each piece, cut to measurements, and used a paint roller to wet the back. Hung each piece and smoothed with a rolling pin. It took less than two hours and we were meticulous about getting out bubbles. We matched the pattern of the grass cloth and trimmed overhang with an exacto knife, once dry. My only suggestion is to look for manufacturers with good reviews. Price doesn’t equal quality.

It’s $$$ but all the well decorated ones are using lots of wallpaper. It’s incredibly popular now

But yeah, I totally get it OP. I love thibaut and Schumacher wallpaper and I just can’t justify the cost.

It’s actually very popular in high end markets.

OP I did grass wallpaper in my Mayer bathroom remodel and yea it was a fortune. Not only was the materials crazy, the install was as well. I found out grass wall paper is very difficult to install.
