Listening to a Beatles song that reminded me of an evening like this: summery, mellow, happy. It was the mid 90's and I was young and was with my first big love. Sitting outside listening to this song takes me back so much. Is there a song that does that for you? What was it and how?
Sitting on the couch with two of my guy friends early in the morning after a night of partying in college. It was early fall and we had the door open, watching the rain while listening to Nora Jones. Every time I hear Shoot the Moon or Don't Know Why I'm reminded of that morning when the three of us were nursing hangovers and enjoying a quiet moment. This happened the semester after a long-term breakup and I hadn't seen my friends for a couple of years (they went to another college after high school.) I remember actively savoring the moment because it felt so cathartic.
Every Rose Has it’s Thorn—it was wildly popular the year I turned 16, so it always takes me back. However, one memory in particular always comes to mind. My brother and his friends and I went to a water park a couple of days after I returned from being a summer exchange student in Sweden. While we were in line for a slide, we noticed a bunch of vomit on the sidewalk nearby. People kept walking in it and then getting grossed out and we were laughing so hard. Every Rose Has it’s Thorn was playing at the time, so every time I hear it I think of that vomit and laugh, but also at what a really great summer it had been as an exchange student, getting my drivers license etc. It was a good year.
Any Beatles song, or Beach Boys or Lindesfarne song reminds me of trips with my parents in the car (in the 70s)
"Beautiful Girls" by Van Halen which was our guy group of friends song driving to the beach for the weekend to meet up with the ladies mid day Friday
I’ll make love to you-Boys II Men-lost my virginity to it.
