Do you give neighbors a gift after they have a baby?

Neighbors had a baby earlier this year. We didn't get them anything. Offered congratulations, compliment the baby when we see him (rarely), but we aren't remotely close. These are neighbors 2 doors down whom we occasionally see outside and someone compliments someone's yard, and that's about it. We've all lived in the neighborhood for about 2 years.

I probably would have.

At a minimum I would have given a small gift card and card

Almost all my neighbors who I occasionally talk to within 1-2 houses gave me a small gift or baked good for first born only. I have given similar gifts.

I did not give to a neighbor 2 homes over recently. I have never met the wife. I ran into the husband while I was having lunch with some girlfriends and he made a comment about me stopping by to see the baby so I could drop off a gift - weird!

Don't worry about it.

But - a neighbor dropped dinner off one night unexpectedly. I had not met him, but my husband had. We were struggling with sleep and now 16 years later I still remember the act of kindness.

If its a close neighbor yes.

I just learned last week that my neighbors across the street had a second, because I saw the husband carrying a baby. I was surprised because I haven't seen the wife in about 2 years. I thought maybe she had died or left him. I said congratulations, but I see no reason to give a card or gift.

If we're friendly, yes. If not, no.

I had just moved into a new house when I had a baby and the next-door neighbors gave us some children's books. It was so thoughtful and nice. It's not necessary obviously but it's the kind of thing that helps build a relationship.

Yes, all these years later I still feel tearful remembering the people who brought me food when my second was born. The best gift ever!

We dropped off a rattle, small blanket, and a door dash gift card.

You're describing an acquaintance. So, no.

Yes a neighbor that i did not know well at all dropped off like 3-4 cupcakes ( from Georgetown Cupcake) and it was literally so awesome on like the 5th day when I felt awful and so tired. (I really like sweets though). Anyway not needed, but nice.
