What is your most controversial opinion about college and the college admissions process?

Despite all the people who love to virtue signal and preach to the contrary, prestige matters. Attending an elite school can change the trajectory of one's life in huge and little ways.

That despite all the flaws in the process it is the best system people have come up with so far any any attempts to fix it tends to make it worse.

And that the people who run the colleges know exactly what they are doing and the dilettantes on this forum know nothing.

Standardized test scores matter more than grades.

That the "holistic" approach without the basic verification/validation on the students that the AOs have selected for admittance (Not the entire applicants) is only encouraging cheating and extrapolation on the application.

Colleges admission pay attention to gpa, scores, and maybe a little to essays. Everyone is acting like they dissect the application. This is 100% not true.

I got a 1010 on my SATs and I have a Master’s degree. My brother got a 1300 and dropped out of college. Test scores aren’t everything.

Apparently I'm a jerk for not being on my kids' schools' Facebook pages for parents, and thinking that if my kids are old enough to go away for college, they're old/mature enough to figure it out on their own.

I literally know law partners the same age, with the same salary, where one went to Yale and Oxford and another went to community college and state schools.
