| What is your most controversial opinion about college and the college admissions process? |
| Despite all the people who love to virtue signal and preach to the contrary, prestige matters. Attending an elite school can change the trajectory of one's life in huge and little ways. |
| That the best approach to college selection and admission is to find out what the received wisdom is on DCUM and do the opposite. |
| Making people pay for college is actually a good thing. |
| People with sub 1000 SAT scores don’t belong in college |
|
That despite all the flaws in the process it is the best system people have come up with so far any any attempts to fix it tends to make it worse.
And that the people who run the colleges know exactly what they are doing and the dilettantes on this forum know nothing. |
| Standardized test scores matter more than grades. |
| That the "holistic" approach without the basic verification/validation on the students that the AOs have selected for admittance (Not the entire applicants) is only encouraging cheating and extrapolation on the application. |
| Colleges admission pay attention to gpa, scores, and maybe a little to essays. Everyone is acting like they dissect the application. This is 100% not true. |
I got a 1010 on my SATs and I have a Master’s degree. My brother got a 1300 and dropped out of college. Test scores aren’t everything. |
| Apparently I'm a jerk for not being on my kids' schools' Facebook pages for parents, and thinking that if my kids are old enough to go away for college, they're old/mature enough to figure it out on their own. |
I literally know law partners the same age, with the same salary, where one went to Yale and Oxford and another went to community college and state schools. |
No you’re a jerk because rather than just pass the post by you need to exert your superiority and say that you are too good a mom to join those pages. |
Did you just say that you weren’t on the page or did you tell others they should not be on the page? Because one would make you a jerk and one would not. |
| If you're old enough to go in the military, you should be allowed to drink alcohol. |
