| Its a documentary about a woman, Cheryl, looking into her past relationship with a trusted teacher, exposing an epidemic of widespread grooming in U.S. high schools. Very powerful and thought provoking. I remember stories of a creepy teacher I had in high school, he later married a former student. I think this happens more than we know. |

| If this topic interests you, watch HBO's movie The Tale with Laura Dern. It's based on a true story and truly one of the best movies I have EVER seen. Disturbing but so very good. Laura Dern is amazing. |

Definitely happens more than we think. I also went to high school where two of my AP teachers ( history and Biology) married former students. And yes, girls were in their early 20s at time of marriage. One teacher in his 40s other in his late 20s/early 30s.
My Spanish teacher was in his 20s and reminded me so much of the Spanish teacher in this documentary. He would always want to know everyone’s business, who was dating who, what you did on the weekend, who had a party, etc. It really felt like he crossed boundaries with all the “talk” and light flirty behavior with students but I never knew if he actually took it too far. |

| I had a friend who ended up dating her former teacher when she was in her early 20s and he was about 40. I thought it was gross. She eventually learned that she wasn’t the first of his students he’d dated. |

Such a warning sign. In middle school I had a female teacher like this - and yep, turned out she was sleeping with at least one kid. She was young-ish, maybe 30? and married. So gross. |

My first year teaching I was at a middle school. I was early 20s. Middle school is the worst. I can't imagine anyone being attracted to a middle school or high school student.
I did teach with a male history teacher who was sent to the middle school for having problems with the female high school students. He was going through a divorce. His wife had been a cheerleader at my high school, but she graduated before I attended. I went to high school with his wife's sister. The math teacher I worked with said the band teacher at the high school had seduced her daughter. Her daughter graduated but was involved with the high school band teacher. A school counselor told me I seemed the type who would get involved in a relationship with a student. Someone anonymously put a resignation letter in my faculty mailbox. I stayed friends with a sub who graduated from the high school there. She helped me with the gossip and understanding the culture. I left after my first year. |

Back in the 70's and 80's adults were sexually teens with impunity. It happened with male teachers, priests, cops, parents. It was a different time. It happened so frequently, that it was common and kids didn't tell for a number of reasons. My junior hs teacher used to have girls come to his house to party. He provided alcohol and weed. No one turned him in because they would get punished by their parents. He had sex with some and people would talk about how cool and cute he was.
The priests were molesting pubescent kid, us kids talked about them openly. A cop sexually assaulted my friend- after he caught her and her boyfriend I. The backseat of car. She didn't tell her strict religious parents. |
