| Do the employees of mcps after-school programs undergo background checks? Were coming from dcps and they didn't, which caused huge issues. This was a while back. |
| Are you talking about after school child care, like KAH? If so, yes, those private companies do background checks on their employees. |
No childcare, which i understand to be regulated, but activities put on by Enrichment Academies who runs a number of local schools' clubs and classes |
|
This was on Enrichment Academy’s website. Says yes.

If it’s MCPS sponsored , then yes.
If it’s not through the school, and it’s on school property, with start time like 4pm, then probably not. You need to verify with the vendor what their background check process is , but it’s not likely to be very thorough |
| In Maryland all childcare workers are required to have fingerprinting and background checks. |
| I dont think the before and after school vendors qualify as “childcare workers” - like I mentioned before you should definitely double check with each vendor what their process is if this matters to you. Don’t rely on hearsay from some rando poster on dcum |
| I think there’s not one answer. The after school activities at our elementary school didn’t seem to be hired by MCPS but by the PTA. We had Mad Science, piano, chess etc. I’m not sure how the PTA vetted these organizations. There were also other activities that were non-PTA sponsored but right after school. For example sports programs and scouts. Each organization has its own policies. |
I don't know but it's not fool-proof. Look at this guy https://patch.com/maryland/bethesda-chevychase/bethesda-after-school-worker-charged-sex-offense |
This is my worst nightmare!! |
