Best place in DC to get a delicious, moist coconut cake?

Anonymous
My husband said he’d love to have a coconut cake for his birthday this year. I don’t have time to bake one myself. Can anyone recommend a bakery that makes a really good coconut cake? And I think he would prefer a traditional coconut cake that is white and not German chocolate. Thank you in advance for recommendations.

Honestly, I would probably get a frozen Pepperidge farms one!!!!!
I have not seen them in many bakeries.
Good luck - so yummy!!!

Following! This is my mom's favorite and I'd get one for her birthday if we can find a good source.

The Cake Room- hands down. They have a great coconut layer cake. They are expensive but worth it for a special occasion.

Thank you PPs for both the inexpensive, in a pinch (Pepperidge farm) and expensive (cake room) suggestions. Both are great to have on hand. —OP

Ooh, now I want coconut cake for my birthday this month and will look up Cake Room- thanks!

La Madeleine as well - we have ordered whole cakes for office birthdays and they were a hit!

--OP here. Will try Cake Room another time. I need the cake tomorrow and it doesn't appear that's enough advance notice. I was able to order from La Madeleine for pick-up tomorrow (sadly, the appears the DC store is "temporarily closed" so I have to hoof it out to Bailey's crossroads. And I'm def willing to try Peppridge Farm but I don't have time to drive around to multiple grocery stores in the chance that this is a rarely carried item. But from here on out, I'll be sure to pay attention when I'm in the freezer aisle!

The Pepperidge farm one really isn’t very good. Most bakeries should make fresh coconut cakes or you could order on Goldbelly with a few days lead.

Thanks, PP. Yeah, I thought about Goldbelly, but since my husband only mentioned this preference this morning and his bday is tomorrow, my choices were limited!

I've had a good one from Pastries by Randolph in Arlington.

It's typically in winter but Bread Furst has coconut cake sometimes, for anyone who sees this later. They are worth a call. Their carrot cake is also really yummy.

Happy bday to the hubs, OP!
