An elderly member of my family with lung issues has covid. He is double boosted and taking paxlovid but still pretty symptomatic, lots of flu like symptoms, but stable pulse ox so it definitely could be worse.
I am dropping off food every day. But he has this endearing and currently infuriating habit of telling anyone who cooks for him that their food is delicious and perfect and way too generous. I can not get any opinions out of him. I am pretty sure if I sent him dog food he would tell me it was delicious. So, if you had covid symptoms what tasted better or worse? Were there things you craved like cold food for your throat or soup to keep you hydrated? I feel pretty worried about how sick he seems and cooking seems like the only thing I can do. |
| I lived in applesauce, ice pops, and Vitamin water for two weeks straight. It was all I wanted. |

Can he taste/smell?
I couldn’t. And the only thing that barely had any taste at all was hot and sour soup. I had the tiniest taste are they farthest ranges of sour and sweet, so that was the only thing I could taste. |
I'm not sure he'd tell me about symptoms that aren't observable, but he isn't reporting a lack of taste/smell. He's also not reporting paxlovid mouth, but again, I'm not sure he would. I wondered about sour. Like would something like gazpacho, or a pineapple smoothie be irritating to a sore throat, or something that's easier to taste and therefore appreciated? |
| The idea of gazpacho when I’m sick is kind of revolting, sorry. I just wanted comfort food. Warm pasta with butter and parm, grilled cheese, etc. I was ravenous but also didn’t have cravings |
Same. |
| No one here knows what he is in the mood for. I drank lots of ginger ale. |
| Pho |
+1. When DH had covid we ordered pho and got extra chicken soup, which was perfect. |
| Honestly, what got me through was chx broth and salted caramel ice cream. |
| Broth. Consider he likely has a sore throat, and there can be stomach symptoms, too. Think liquids and comfort food: pho, chicken noodle soup, etc. |
| Anything sweet or salty. Popsicles/ice pops and soups for the sore throat. |
| Cherries & pistachios |

Chicken soup
Pho Sprite Hot tea Had weird tastes in mouth due to anti virals. He may not know that at the time it is happening |

soup--I like campbell's chicken and stars when I'm sick. Something salty is good.
smoothies, protein drinks, yogurt, and applesauce were also good. I liked crackers too. Things that were easy to eat. |
