Class Sizes

How big are your kids classes? What grade level and subject?

4th - homeroom is 21.

5th- 22 students (but I know the 4th grade classes are around 28 so we just got lucky).

A junior and it varies. 30 in AP Calc, under 20 in a few IB classes

The largest class any of my kids had was 34 in geometry in MS. And that was definitely an outlier. ES I think the largest was around 22. My daughter had 13 in Kindergarten.

Kindergarten - 28. Third grade - 24. And this is after they rezoned half our neighborhood to a different elementary school this year to make it smaller.

Smaller schools have fewer teachers allotted, so it wouldn't result in smaller class sizes.

Son and daughter are at two different HS. Both noted huge AP Lang classes! I can’t imagine how those teachers will grade 30+ papers on top of whatever other courses they are teaching.

HS English departments get a composition assistant to help with grading.

Is there somewhere I can find the maximum class sizes for elementary school? I tried searching the MCPS site but wasn't able to locate any info.

They aren't maximums, they're merely guidelines:

Classroom teacher positions for Grades K–5
are allocated based on enrollment projections
to Kindergarten using a class size guideline of
24, to Grades 1–2 using a class size guideline of
25, to Grade 3 using a class size guideline of 26,
and to Grades 4-5 using a class size guideline of
28. Additional classroom teacher positions are
provided to focus and Title I schools to Grades
K–2 using a class size guideline of 18, to Grade 3
using a class size guideline of 24, and to Grades
4-5 using a class size guideline of 26.

18 in 1st grade (focus school). Happy about that because last year all the kindergarten classes ended up being ~21-23 students per class.
