Being waitlisted is such mixed bag. Its hard to know how to take it, especially when the letter is too nice. Years ago we thought the Beauvoir letter was personal, was meaningful, that they really did hope to give our child a spot eventually. Then you start finding out that maybe a waitlist letter isn't what you thought it was. I think the way Sidwell and St Patricks do it is better - at least you know you might have shot if you are waitlisted and they did like your DC. We never got a flat out rejection letter, and I imagine it is painful, but the waitlist letter often raises false hopes and that is cruel. Anyway, to everyone who is waitlisted, hang in there, we are very happy at our top choice school that waitlisted us for PK and let us in for K.
