Saturday night sitter

Anonymous
I am looking for a consistent Saturday night sitter with the hours 5-10. We have two kids aged 4 and 6. Both can dress themselves and go to bed easily at 7:30. After that, the sitter can watch tv, be on the phone, or whatever.

We have placed ads in our neighborhood listserv and Facebook page and aren’t getting bites. We advertised it as $150/ per Saturday night but we’d like someone to commit to be there weekly. There may be a Saturday here and there we don’t need them and we said we would pay regardless since we are wanting them to hold the date.

We got one person with interest but they never returned my text.

What’s the deal? Too low of a rate? No one wants just Saturday’s? We live in NoVA if that matters.

What do you need a babysitter for consistently Saturday nights? That seems odd.

Our marriage therapist suggested we set one night aside a week for us to do something together. We are going to be taking up a hobby together.

So yes, we may be odd, but weeknights with school and work commitments don’t work. Figured we try this before we split on just resent each other more. /s

Good lord, just get divorced already. Ridiculous.

No one wants to babysit every Saturday night.

Why every Saturday night? Hire a nanny if you have to work.

Few people are going to be willing to consistently give up EVERY Saturday night. High school and college kids have social activities on Saturdays. Most adults work during the week and don’t want to work every Saturday night either. If you’re willing to pay the fees for a service, they may be able to find you someone regular from their rolls, but $150 won’t cut it.

Even for more money? For $500 I’d do it.

Your therapist needs to get real. If your marriage is going to live or die on that, then get divorced.

$2000 a month and I’d consider it. Nothing less.

Are you offering guaranteed hours? As in if you don’t need the nanny, they still get paid? If not, you can’t just reserve someone every Saturday. Also, it’s not $150/night. It’s hourly.

It’s because you’re offering a flat rate. With that, nothing would stop you from refining at 4am.

The weekly date night thing is so hokey.
