What are you doing to make the first day of school extra special?

Anonymous
We are excited for our first grader to begin his first day of school on Monday!

We plan to take photos and walk him to the school bus and pick him up early from extended day.

What else can we do to make things special?

You’re already doing enough. Your child will be overwhelmed. Calm down a little.

Got them a junky cereal that I normally don’t allow.

Why give your child junk food?

My kids are in college now. This is what we did for each of our children -
- a whole week of new cute outfits
- pictures
- pancakes the first week for breakfast

For our firstborn's first day of kindergarten, we followed the school bus to school in our car. LOL!! She was so excited!!

We've started a bit of a tradition where we decorate the our kitchen area/make pancakes for breakfast. The kids look forward to it every year!

This. Plus picking up early from after care seems like a bad idea. Let him get used to the routine.

Ice cream for breakfast or some other thing that you can carry through until they graduate - like balloons or confetti on the breakfast table. And photos. My youngest is in 10th grade and we were out with a bunch of her friends tonight and they all complained about the photos - but all clearly loved them.

Picking up early is a crapshoot. Kids LOVE aftercare and don’t like to leave early.

We do sprinkle pancakes for breakfast with whipped cream and cherries. And then ice cream when they get home.

I’m convinced life is special and meant to be celebrated.

Why does it have to be special? Unless you mean for parents.

Put a note in the lunch box with a cookie and a festive napkin

For our first grader, we hired a band to serenade him with his favorite tunes as a wake-up.

Cold milk and warm cookies when they get home from school for the first week. Did this k-12 for 3 children. You only need to make one batch, keep the dough in the refrigerator or freezer (in the shape of a log, wrapped in wax paper inside a ziplock bag) and cut off a few each day and cook (which I did in the toaster oven).
