Math tutor for my 7th grader

Hello,
Does anyone know how I can find a tutor for my 7th grade student? I tried the school and they don’t have a list. I don’t want to go through a company. I would like an in-person tutor.
Trying to tutor my 7th grader myself always ends in a battle. It doesn’t work.

try neighborhood listserv like nextdoor or something. I ususally see people either advertising their tutoring services or people looking for tutors.

My DC tutors at a center, but could tutor privately for the right price 800 on SAT math, senior in HS, taking two high level math classes this year, the one after BC calc -- MVC, and something else.. I've stopped following after BC calc.

We have been using online tutor for 2 years now and are very happy with him (I would highly recommend him). DS is in 8th grade and the tutor we are using does all math subjects. I found him through Thumbtack. I think you can specify if you want "in person" only.

Your kid's teacher will have a list of MCPS math teachers from other schools who are available. That is who you ask first - because they will know the curriculum from the inside.

The problem with external tutors (i.e. those not working in other MCPS schools) is they may know the subject but not the methods being taught in the classroom and they may use very different approaches which ultimately don't help your child.

PP with online tutor here. We have had MCPS teacher tutors previously (in person) and while one of them was great, the other two not so much. I think part of the issue for my DS at least was that MCPS approach to the subject did not make sense to him and a lot of times he struggled. Now they figure out the best way to make sense of the concept first and than back into how MCPS does it. The only inconvenience is that I have to download math curriculum and send it to tutor ahead of time and DS sends PDFs of what they are working on at the school. With MCPS teacher, they already have all that info.
