| My DC is an IB diploma student but with a B average and average test scores. They are interested in the big state flagship schools but I can’t gauge their chances of getting in - on the one hand they seem low based on GPA, but if I look up acceptance rates for IB students at the same schools they are in the 60-80% acceptance range…..anyone else with experience with this? |

IB doesn't mean much.

Which flagship schools? IB diploma is an asset--it's considered strong evidence of course rigor by colleges. What is the weighted GPA? |
| You need to look at Naviancefor your own school and ask how to interpret again SCHEV statistics. Only your college counselor can tell you this |
| OP here: GPA is 3.4, we aren’t in VA so SCHEV doesn’t help, also don’t have counseling at HS (its a very low income school). Looking at: NC State, Rutgers, GA, UConn, etc - TIA |
Great schools. Good luck! |
This could be an asset. |

Does your school have Naviance? Could the IB Coordinator help?
My kid with similar stats was accepted at U of AZ and Indiana. Temple might also be of interest. |
| 3.4 GPA weighted or unweighted? |

Schools my B (3.5 GPA) IB student was accepted to:
Penn State Pitt James Madison George Mason Appalachian State Drexel Virginia Tech |
| ^ Weighted or unweighted PP 13:49 |

A B student in an IB program is similar to a B student taking APs. A strong student, but not the top. State flagships, except limited enrollment programs, should be good fit. Certainly at the next level state schools.
Did your kid take SAT/ACT? A strong score would help. |
