What came home after first time move in

There are all these lists based on dorms, suites, apartment styles that include various items which didn’t work for your first time college attendee.

So what item(s) came back home either on move in day or unused at the end of the school year.

So what were the recommended most useless things? I also realize what works for one student may not for another, but I just wanted to see what didn’t work!

My DS much preferred a pop and fold laundry bag to a laundry basket. We use baskets at home and I found one that collapsed for more room but he found it easier to carry a bag with his dirty laundry than the hard plastic basket. I ended up having a bag shipped to him and his basket came home at Thanksgiving.

Mine was the opposite on this!

School didn't allow bed risers after all; some organizational items like a rolling cart didn't get used until year 2 room had a bit more space.

I heard from multiple moms that sons sent with a second set of sheets came back unopened

A bed skirt in case he wanted to just raise the bed (a few feet higher than "normal".) He ended up lofting it (so that his desk is under it, so the bed skirt wasn't needed. It's fine, I got it on clearance pretty cheap, and I know in his sophmore year dorm the beds only raise, they don't loft--so maybe he will use it then.
