| We don't have any kids yet, but live on the same street as an ES. I noticed the car line this morning and was surprised how late it was, so I checked the FCPS site and see that most ES in the county start at 9:45. How on earth do working parents make that schedule work? |
| What's funny is how early high school starts when high schoolers want to sleep in and elementary students are up at 6am. |
Sports. |
You don't know much. The high schoolers start time is luxurious compared to the poor middle schoolers. |
There are two elementary schedules, early and late ones. Our late elementary school starts at 9:15 and I think a few start at 9:20. But many elementary schools are on the earlier schedule and they start around 8:30 (?). |
Haha. Agree. |
|
Ours is 8:45-9:00.
Not 9:45. That's ridiculous. |
You might be near at an AAP center Our ES starts at 835am. |
| OP, Bell time is not the same for all schools mostly because of buses. In general it goes middle, high and elementary. Check the individual school’s website for the bell-time. |
Working parents pay for before and after school care. |
| Do you want the opposite (early ES, late HS)? Move to Loudoun County. |
|
I know this is Fairfax- but my niece's Loundon county elementary school starts at 7:20 - with a 6:15 bus pick up!
|
As to how folk make it work, there is before/after care for some schools. Other parents use activity-centers (karate etc) whose vans pick up kids at school. Ours goes 8:30-3:30 so some parents use both before and after care which is a pain. |
But my kids soccer club team doesn't start practice until 7:30 so sports is a lame excuse. |
Funny how LCPS HS starts at 9:30 and they still manage to have sports. I wonder how they work that out? |
