Maryland exchange plan for donor egg

Anonymous
Do plans on the MD health insurance exchange cover FET with donor egg (family member is egg donor) and donor sperm?

The exchange plans are set up to support fresh transfers, so all the fees associated with cryopreservation, thaw, etc would not be covered, but from what I can tell, the actual transfer would be. I have an exchange plan through BCBS and anticipate doing a transfer with a donor egg embryo.

OP here! Thank you. I wonder if there would even be a monetary benefit to paying the insurance premium for an exchange plan vs. just paying OOP for transfer(s) of donor egg embryo. I suppose it would depend on the clinic used since prices are rather variable from clinic to clinic.

My plan is $350/month, so if you're only going to do one transfer, I imagine it would be cheaper to pay out of pocket. Our upcoming transfer costs us over $1K because of the fee to thaw the embryo (never mind the fee to freeze it in the first place, with I think was close to $2K), but those fees are included in the total out of pocket cost, which at our clinic I believe is about $5K. Hope this is helpful!

I have CareFirst BCBS and Shady Grove states donor egg coverage is not available. What facility accepted your CareFirst BCBS coverage for donor egg?
